The game that decided the top of the standings. Chung-Ang University was the winner.
Chung-Ang University defeated Sungkyunkwan University 90-81 in the regular season finale of the 2024 KUSF University Basketball U-League South at the Anseong Campus Gymnasium of Chung-Ang University on Monday. It was the second straight win to open the season.
Kang Hyun-soo (181 cm, G) and Seo Ji-woo (200 cm, C) controlled the early flow of the game, while Choi Hyung-woo (185 cm, G) and Lee Kyung-min (183 cm, G) fueled the momentum. With all of their main resources performing well, Chung-Ang University was able to take a 21-14 lead in the first quarter.
Kang Hyun-soo continued to be aggressive, especially at the beginning of the second quarter, when he took over a steal from Choi Hyung-woo and made a bold fastbreak layup. A fast break layup by Kang made it 25-14, the first double-digit lead of the game.
However, Chung-Ang then faced Sungkyunkwan University’s zone defense and full-court press. However, the lead remained in double digits thanks to three-pointers from Lee Kyung-min and Ko Chan-yu (190 cm, G). The score was 50-39 at halftime.
Chung-Ang University trailed 50-45 just 50 seconds into the third quarter. After a timeout, Sungkyunkwan University was unable to erase the deficit. However, they took a breather after a three-pointer by Ko Chan-yoo. Jungang University finished the third quarter with a 70-61 lead.
Then, Kang Hyun-soo hit a three-pointer to make it 75-61 just 59 seconds into the fourth quarter. Chung-Ang maintained a double-digit lead for quite some time after that. Then Lim Dong-un (195 cm, F) hit a tip-in to make it 85-72 with 3:20 left in the game. It sealed the game.
Meanwhile, Pusan National University defeated Dankook University 66-51 in a women’s college regular season game at Dankook University’s Cheonan Campus Gymnasium. It was their second straight win to open the season.
The standout player for Busan University was Lee Eun-so (181 cm, C). In 21 minutes and 3 seconds on the court, Lee finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds (4 offensive), 2 steals, 1 assist, and 1 blocked shot. She was the only player from either team to record a double-double.
Choi’s (167 cm, G) fourth-quarter performance was also impressive. She scored the most points in the fourth quarter (seven) on the team. Including his fourth-quarter surge, he finished with 12 points, four rebounds (one offensive), and four assists against Dankook.
Meanwhile, Inye Yang (172 cm, F) and Jo Joo-hee (176 cm, F) had outstanding performances for Dankook. Yang Inyeh and Jo Joo-hee had 14 points, 6 assists, 3 assists, 3 blocked shots, and 1 steal, respectively, and 14 points, 3 steals, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 blocked shot, respectively. Dankook University, however, improved to 1-1 after the Busan game.
