“This time last year, I was playing in the K-League U-18 Championship. Next year around this time, I want to come to Korea as a member of Tottenham.”
Yang Min-hyeok, who will be playing on the European stage wearing the Tottenham Hotspur uniform of the English Premier League (EPL) starting next January, imagined himself returning home in glory a year later.
Yang Min-hyeok met with reporters at the Team K-League interview held at the Mayfield Hotel in Gangseo-gu, Seoul on the 31st, and revealed the background and feelings behind signing with Tottenham, as well as setting goals for the future.
On the 28th, the transfer of Yang Min-hyeok, a rising star born in 2006 who plays for professional soccer team Gangwon FC, to Tottenham was officially announced.
Yang Min-hyeok, who received the most support in the K-League ‘Couple Young-ple’ category selected by fan voting, will play in the first match of the 2024 Coupang Play Series against Tottenham at 8 PM today at Seoul World Cup Stadium as a K-League representative young gun.
It’s like meeting the team you’ll be playing for in six months as an enemy.
Yang Min-hyeok said, “I think it’s more special for me personally. I think the team will be watching me closely as well,” and added, “I will show as 토토 many of my strengths as possible through today’s game.”
Yang Min-hyeok said that the presence of Son Heung-min, the captain of both South Korea and Tottenham, was crucial in his decision to choose Tottenham over other European clubs.
Yang Min-hyeok, who wore the number 47 on his back, saying he wanted to be like his Gangwon senior Yang Hyeon-jun, now considers Son Heung-min as his role model.
Yang Min-hyeok said, “As a fellow Korean, I think he will be a great help. Son Heung-min’s two-footed shooting is amazing, and I want to learn a lot from him.”
Immediately after the transfer announcement, he reportedly received a social media follow request from Archie Gray, a fellow player born in 2006 who joined Tottenham and is playing pre-season games ahead of this season.
“I haven’t had a conversation yet because I’m not that good at English,” said Yang Min-hyeok. “I’ve been studying English for the past month. It’s definitely still difficult.”
When Yang Min-hyeok joins Tottenham in January next year, the EPL is in full swing.
Yang Min-hyeok said, “It would be better if we went in the summer when the season starts,” but added, “I have to show a better side so that I can be recognized and get a chance.”
