Delta Awaits Q4 Gambling Revenue from New Casino

It has been just over a year since the opening of Cascades Casino Delta, but the gambling location is already a major contributor to the city’s budget plans. Delta’s finance department predicts that while the fourth quarter of 2023 is still underway, the gaming site will deliver approximately CA$1.8 million in revenue to the city’s coffers for 2023.

After several delays, Cascades Casino Delta finally opened in September 2022, and it is operated by Gateway Casinos & Entertainment, which is a premier operator of land-based gaming locations in Canada. It is located next to the interchange of highways 99 and 17A, and as per provincial laws, it delivers 10% of its net profits to its host community.

Latest Projections Correspond to Initial Estimations

As the city prepares for the next budget plan, its finance department estimated that for the last quarter of 2023, the gaming hotspot will bring approximately CA$1.8 million in revenue for the coffers. Before the construction of the casino, the British Columbia Lottery Corporation projected that annual revenue from the casino would be from CA$1.5 million to CA$3 million.

As mentioned, Cascades Casino Delta was in the works for a while before finally opening its doors for patrons in September 2022. It stretches over 160,000 square feet of land, and boats a spacious gaming floor with 500 slots, 18 live table gaming, and stadium-style gaming. There are also Gateway’s signature dining amenities, such as The Buffet, Summit Bar, and MATCH Eatery & Public House.

In September 2023, the operator and the city marked the first-year anniversary of the launch of the gaming amenity. The operator commented that the new gambling property has had a significant impact on the local community, and has proved to be a premier hotspot for gaming, dining, and entertainment for residents and tourists.

Since the launch of the premium gambling and entertainment venue, it has welcomed more than 627,688 guests to its premises. It has hosted 122 meetings and events at its contention space and has awarded CA$234,955 in cash and bonus prizes via promotions. In that time, it also sold 41,766 pints of beer at its Summit Bar and Match Eatery & Public House.

Additionally, the city council recently approved a change to the business license bylaw in regard to the casino. The new few that will be imposed is CA$7,000, which the planning department deems within range of, but lower than the fee for gaming activities in the City of Langley, where a similar casino operates and pays CA$8,568 annually for a business license.

Staff Join Labour Union

In May 2023, staff of Cascades Casino Delta agreed to join a labour union and inked its first collective agreement. The three-year contract states that wages will be increased by 9% and also add premiums for graveyard shifts. Union said the signing of the deal will protect seniority and make provisions for making scheduling and recall more transparent and fairer for employees.
