The Go board is covered… the first broadcast accident in the final

“It’s not one count, it’s two. I put it in ‘Nine’.”
An unprecedented incident occurred in the middle of a Go final match. The happening of this match, which was being played as a broadcasting powerhouse on Korea Baduk TV, was broadcast live on the air.

At 1 p.m. on the 26th, the game was stopped and the board was decided in the fourth-tier Park Jung-hwan and Seol Hyun-jun eighth-tier matches of the 2nd 5th 七 joint-timing Korean Baduk Championship at the Korea Baduk TV Studio in Seongdong-gu, Seoul.

An official from the Korea Foundation told Cookie News, “We need to check the exact facts after the broadcast, but it is understood that Shin Hye-won (a person in charge of clock and countdown in professional Go games) made a mistake,” adding, “With two 8th-tier countdowns left, Shin Hye-won counted nine and Seol Hyun-jun started, but the countdown was changed to one. Seol 8th-dan challenged the referee on this part and blocked the board during the judgment time.” He added, “It is a rule to cover the board during the judgment.”

Meanwhile, the match resumed as of 5:11 p.m. The situation is favorable to Seol Hyun-joon of 8 dan. Currently, Park Jung-hwan of 9 dan has a 2-1 lead in the series in the final stage of the 2nd 七 joint-timing championship. If Seol 8 dan wins in the 4th round, the final 5 dan will be held in the same place on March 6.
