Lee Kang-in delayed joining national team to ‘win’ Super Cup, includes predicted starting lineup!

Lee Kang-In has been included in the expected starting lineup for the Super Cup, his last game before joining the Asian Cup.

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) will face Toulouse in the 2023 Trofeo des Champions (French Super Cup) at the Parc des Princes in Paris, France, on Jan. 4 at 4:45 a.m. ET.

Ahead of the match, local French media outlet L’Equipe has revealed the expected starting lineup. The list includes Lee Kang-in, Kylian Mbappe, and Ousmane Dembele, among others.

Lee joined PSG in the summer transfer window. After the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games and an October A-match, he began to get more playing time, culminating in a PSG debut goal against AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) and an assist in a league game against Brest.

Lee’s form continued. He scored his league debut goal against Montpellier in the next game, recording his third consecutive attacking point and being named in the official Ligue 1 best eleven for the second consecutive week. Since then, Lee has been a regular in the team, with one goal and two assists in 10 league games and one goal in five UCL games to date.

Despite some recent criticism from local media, Luis Enrique has expressed his confidence in Lee. “For those who don’t watch La Liga, Lee Kang-in may be an unfamiliar name, but he is a very important player for us. He can play on the left or right flank, he has technical ability, he sacrifices himself for the team, he’s funny, he’s nice, he’s everything,” Enrique said.

In his first season with the club, Lee has adapted well and made a name for himself. Despite being temporarily sidelined for the Asian Cup in Qatar, he showed his determination to win by personally asking the Korean Football Association and coach Jürgen Klinsmann to postpone his call-up date. France’s Le Parisien recently reported, “Lee Kang-in could play in the final against Toulouse. He has informed the Korean Football Association (KFA) of his desire to play against Toulouse.”

At the same time, Lee Kang-in is also on the list of expected starters. In the list released by L’Equipe, Lee plays on the left flank, forming an attacking line with Mbappe and Dembele. In addition, Vitinha, Manuel Ugarte, and Warren Zaire-Emery form the midfield, while Luca Hernandez, Danilo Pereira, Marquinhos, Ashraf Hakimi, and Gianluigi Donnarumma form the defense and goalkeeping.
