‘Accepting the loss,’ Tommy says: “The Cards played better volleyball”

Korean Air head coach Tommy Tilikainen admits defeat at home to Woori Card.

Korean Air lost 0-3 (19-25 23-25 24-26) in set points at home to Woori Card in the second round of the Dodram 2023-2024 V-League Men’s Division at Gyeyang Gymnasium in Incheon at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

With their fourth loss of the season (8 points), Korean Air remained level on points with Woori Card at 25 and lost the top spot in the standings. It was also their second loss in as many games, following their first-round defeat on Oct. 25.

For Korean Air, dropping the first set proved to be the difference. They were up 19-16, but the Shock’s nine consecutive errors cost them the first set and the match.

“I want to congratulate them, they played better volleyball than us,” Coach Tommy said after the match.

“We didn’t attack, we didn’t counterattack. We tried, we tried, but we just didn’t play good volleyball. When we play well and lose, we have excuses, but on a day like today, I don’t have anything to say,” he said, hanging his head.

“The reason we train is to get better. I have a reason to go back and work harder. We can’t make the same mistakes we made today.”

Tommy also praised Woori Card, who have lost two of their head-to-head matches this season.

“They are a good volleyball team,” Tommy said. Their attackers scored and defended well. They showed why they are at the top of the table.”
