Questions are being raised about the sale.
“The performance of Gianluca Scaramacca (24, Atalanta) shows West Ham’s lack of depth,” said the Hammers News, a West Ham United outlet.
The 24-year-old scored two goals and provided an assist against Empoli in the 10th round of the 2023-24 Italian Serie A on Oct. 31. Atalanta cruised to a 3-0 victory over Empoli, with Scaramucci’s performance leading the way.
Since joining Atalanta ahead of the season, Scaramacca has been a solid performer. In nine appearances, he has four goals and one assist.
Unsurprisingly, his former club, West Ham, is hitting the ground running. The Hammers snapped up Scaramucci from Sassuolo last summer after he was deemed a promising attacking talent in Italy. At the time, the Hammers paid a transfer fee of €42 million with several options, and the contract was for five years with an option to extend for another year. As you can imagine, West Ham’s expectations for Scaramucci were high.
However, the adjustment was not easy. He struggled to fit in with David Moyes’ tactics and lost his place to a major injury during the season.
After the season, he didn’t want to stay at West Ham anymore. Moyes also turned his back on him. He sent him to Atalanta, trusting in his existing striker, Michail Antonio. In one season, he scored eight goals in 27 appearances across all competitions.
However, the media claimed that Moyes made the wrong choice. Antonio played 12 games in all competitions this season and scored just two goals. On the other hand, Skramaca has scored four goals in nine games. The outlet also explained 사설토토 that West Ham needed to sign a new striker after letting Skramaca go. Despite the lack of reinforcements, the Hammers are currently in ninth place in the Premier League with four wins, two draws, and four losses.
