GDB’s Kim Geun-bin scored the first goal of the season to clinch the 텍사스홀덤 K7 League title.
The 2023 season of the K7 Changwon Special City Division League came to a close on the 15th. Changwon GDB clinched the title with a 3-2 win over Bonglim FC in Changwon, Gyeongnam.
Changwon GDB scored two goals in the first half to take control of the game. However, they conceded a goal shortly after the start of the second half, followed by another in the fifth minute. In an instant, the mood of both teams changed completely.
Ten minutes before the end of the game, Kim Geun-bin, a center back for Changwon GDB, hit a mid-range shot and scored the game-winning goal. Changwon Bonglim FC scored a penalty kick (PK) to make it 3-1, but the game was not over.
Kim Geun-bin’s goal played a crucial role in clinching the championship for Changwon GDB. What’s more, it was his first goal of the season. As a result, Kim was named MVP of the final round of the Changwon Special K7 League.
“I got the ball and there was nowhere to give it, so I thought I’d take a shot. When it hit my instep, it felt good. It was exhilarating to see it go into the goal,” he recalled. After the game, his Changwon GDB teammates doused him with water and celebrated wildly.
“We had a lot of problems with our roster. Many players were injured and unable to play. We didn’t even have a goalkeeper, so the player who usually plays left defense was forced to play goalkeeper. It was thanks to the confidence of the team that we were able to finish the game in a good way despite the difficult situation.”
Changwon GDB named their team after the acronym ‘Golden Bell’. The team is composed mainly of people born in 1995, and they say they have a strong sense of unity as they are all the same age. Kim Geun-bin said, “We are a team of friends. We’ve known each other for a long time. We know each player’s characteristics very well. It definitely helps when we play,” he said proudly.
In their first year in the division, Changwon GDB won the K7 Changwon Special City title in the 2023 season. The moment they clinched the title, the Changwon GDB players performed a victory ceremony with a self-made banner.
In conclusion, Kim Geun-bin said, “Our team has a lot of players and the overall level is high. If we don’t let our guard down in the playoffs, we’ll have a chance to get promoted. We must get promoted.”
