Pro volleyball OK Financial Group defeats Woori Card in first round

OK Financial Group stopped Woori Card’s bid for a first-round sweep.

OK Financial Group defeated Woori Card in straight sets 3-0 (25-23 26-24 25-22) in the men’s home match of the professional volleyball Dodram 2023-2024 V League at Sangryoksu Gymnasium in Ansan on Wednesday.

Leader Woori Card (14-5-1), who had won five straight matches including the opening match, lost the last match of the first round.

OK Financial Group improved to 10 points (4-1) and moved from fourth to third place.

The two teams battled in every set.

However, it was OK Financial Group that always had the last laugh.

At 21-21 in the first set, OK Financial Group broke the balance with a late attack by Song Hee-chae and widened the gap with a service ace by Leonardo Leyva Martinez (registered name Leo).

At 23-22, Shin converted an open attack for set point, and at 24-23, Song Hee-chae closed out the set with an open attack.

The second set was a deuce battle.

At 24-24, Leo landed an open attack, but Woori Card’s Kim Jee-han’s quick open went out of the line without reaching the blocker’s hands, and the teams were evenly matched.

In the third set, at 22-20, Song Hee-chae scored back-to-back open attacks to give OK Financial Group a 24-20 lead.

It was the moment that actually decided the match.

Song Hee-chae (12 points), who returned to the team where she started her professional career after being traded from Woori Card to OK Financial Group in May this year, played a key role in the set.

All three of OK Financial Group’s wing players scored in double figures, with Leo adding 21 points and Shin Shin-jin 13.

Matey Kok (14 points) was the only other player to score more than 10 points for Woori Card.

In the women’s game, GS Caltex swept Hyundai E&C in the ‘Momma Derby’.

GS Caltex won their home match against Hyundai E&C in straight sets 3-0 (25-16 25-20 25-14) at Jangchung Gymnasium in Jung-gu, Seoul.

GS Caltex improved to 11 points (4-1) and moved up to second place in the standings, overtaking Hyundai E&C (10-3).

The gap between them and first-place Heungkuk Life (12-4-1) is one point.

GS Caltex faced Leticia Moma Basoko (née Moma) for the first time on the day.

Moma was GS Caltex’s main shooter in the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 seasons, but this season she wore a Hyundai E&C uniform.

GS Caltex held Moma to 12 points (41.38% shooting percentage).

GS Caltex’s foreign player of choice, Giselle Silva (real name Silva), scored a team-high 21 points (51.35% shooting percentage).

The report cards of the two foreign players were the difference between victory and defeat. 사설토토
