Former national soccer player Park Ji-sung is stepping down as the technical director (TD) of Jeonbuk Hyundai.
On the 23rd, Sports Donga reported, “Director Park Ji-sung is stepping down from his position. We understand that the club is looking for a successor,” an official said.
Park joined Jeonbuk as an advisor in January 2021 and was appointed as technical director in September the following year.
He recently returned to South Korea to take care of various backlogs, including Jeonbuk-related work and youth soccer tournaments, before returning to London on Nov. 21.
During his time in the country, Park gave his opinion on the controversial appointment of Hong Myung-bo as head coach of the national soccer team and watched the 24th round match of the Hana Bank K League 1 2024 between Jeonbuk and Ulsan HD at Jeonju World Cup Stadium last weekend.
Prior to his departure, Park reportedly told the club that he would “step down” from his position.
This was likely out of a sense of responsibility. Jeonbuk has been in crisis mode this season, languishing in the bottom half of the table.
According to reports, Park made the decision because he felt bad for not being able to help the team when it was at its lowest point and was heartbroken by the series of events.
He said, “Even if I leave, the relationship will continue. I will always want to help Jeonbuk no matter what,” he reportedly said.
When Jeonbuk first learned of Park’s intention to resign, they reportedly opposed it and expressed their desire to continue working with him as an “advisor” or in another capacity.
In the midst of all this, Lee announced his transfer from Suwon FC to Jeonbuk Hyundai on March 21.
He explained the reason for the move, saying, “Jisung’s presence was too great. Jeonbuk is not in a good situation right now, but I think they are the best team in Korea,” he said. 카지노사이트
